Anemone of the Andes

Magellan Anemone (Anemone multifida var. magellanica), Family Ranunculaceae
Valle Challhuaco, Argentina

Explanation:  This lovely little perennial has a remarkably wide distribution.  The parent species, Anemone multifida, is found widely through North America and south ... and this subspecies A. m. magellanica is found in the Andes Mountains of Argentina.

The lesson here is that the species is highly variable in form, flower color, and habitat conditions.  Being so locally adapted, the local subspecies and forms deserve the term ecotype.

But beware ... when fresh, all plant parts are poisonous.
