The Biggest of All

Giant Kingfisher (Megaceryle m. maxima), Family Alcedinidae
Lake Naivasha, Kenya

Explanation:   Sporting the specific epithet (the "species name") maxima is this Giant Kingfisher, the biggest of all the kingfishers ... truly a king of the, well, fishers.

Yes, it feeds on fish but also some crustaceans, amphibians, and other small prey.  It typically hunts from a perch-and-dive posture, and can be a pest to fish hatcheries.

Found throughout most of sub-Saharan Africa, populations seem secure.   This individual enjoyed a nice view of Lake Naivasha and potential aquatic prey from a lakeside perch.
