Leonids of November 17-18, 2001.  Major fireball. Approx. 2 a.m..  South.  Notice how the fireball is just grazing the belt and sword of Orion behind the tree.  To the left is Sirius, magnitude -1.60.  This fireball was bright.


Fireball shown above, detail view.  It is grazing the star Rigel, magnitude 0.30.


Same image as above but enhanced to show contours of levels of apparent magnitude.


Another, more typical Leonid.  Much fainter magnitude than the fireball shown above.  Note magnitudes of some of the nearby brighter stars.
