Four different species made these cavities that all appear generally alike ... oblong holes carved for the purpose of nesting and/or foraging.  

This is a lesson in convergent ecological behavior ... how such organisms in diverse locations, ecosystems, and taxonomic groups can serve as similar ecosystem engineers, creating similar habitat structures.  

Need I say it?  Nature can be surprising and always amazing.
