Explanation:   Who is bigger?

It is a life-changing treat to view either of these world's largest raptors ... but who takes the record?

It depends on how you define "large:"

  • Andean condors are purported to have the largest wing area of any living bird.

  • California condors have a longer body (beak to tail).

  • Andean condors have a wider wingspan.

  • California condors hare the largest wingspan ... of any North American bird.

  • Andean condors are heavier (males can weigh in at 24-33 lbs, females 18-24 lbs).

Regardless of who wins here, both bring awe and respect to any observer, and both need conservation actions for their continued survival.
